Meet Poet Helen Iles

With a lifetime caring for horses and loving life in the bush, Helen's pen could not resist the rhythm of the traditional bush ballad and over the years created numerous poems portraying that beautiful creature, the horse. Many of these poems have been written from actual experiences and feature her first rogue horse, Hunter, who taught her so much about horse-breaking.  She shares those poems in Of Bushmen and Brumbies

From her love of traditional poetry, Helen branched out and studied other poetry forms, her writing students requesting her to write them down. She therefore compiled the poetry text book, Writing Poetry - Simplified which provides the requirements of the poetry style or form as well as an example. This book has proved popular with poets and non-poets alike.
